Ba-ta-clan

“... the standard of the jokes and rewritten libretto is far above that to be found in the creations of most opera companies that dip their toe into similar waters...With such a strong cast ... we can only hope that a Joss / Sherlock collaboration is a regular feature of future seasons.”

Sam Smith - Music OMH

Offenbach’s first significant success, the frankly ridiculous plot of Ba-ta-clan was applauded for its swiping commentary on French political life in the nineteenth century, wrapped in some of the composers’ most charming and tuneful music.

This new production reunited the creative team behind ‘Rita’, with a new translation by director Morag Joss, reflecting the contemporary political satire that made the original Ba-ta-clan such a success.
