One of the most beloved of all Donizetti’s operas, L’elisir d’amore is a light-hearted tale with endearing characters, a bubbly exhilarating score and stunning melodies including the poignant aria ‘Una furtiva lagrima’.
Nemorino is besotted with the wealthy Adina but she rejects his declarations of love. Enter Doctor Dulcamara, a quack travelling salesman, with his miraculous ‘elixir of love’. Will it help Nemorino win Adina’s heart? Or will pompous Sergeant Belcore sweep her off her feet?
