La Cenerentola
A largely young cast in a production which positively fizzed with excitement and enjoyment
Rossini’s charming interpretation of Perrault and the Grimm Brothers’ immortalised fairy tale of Cinderella brings all the loved characters to life but slightly differently.
Here Cinderella has a stepfather, Don Magnifico, a comic tour de force. The Prince’s Valet is disguised as his master and Alidoro, a philosopher, takes the place of a fairy godmother.
This is Rossini at his finest and with soaring arias and tender melodies this comic opera is often regarded as Rossini’s most successful.
