MUSIC AND MONARCHY – THE RISE AND FALL OF THE ENGLISH MUSICAL TRADITION

The 2013 BBC series ‘Music and Monarchy’ was celebrated for being ‘undeniably brilliant’ in its portrayal of the role played by music in the royal households, from the medieval era to the present, from the composer kings to the Protestant reformers to the golden age of the Chapels Royal.

Its author and presenter David Starkey has been variously described as ‘eccentric’, ‘grievously outspoken’ ‘offensive’ or ‘dogmatic’ but he is without doubt one of the most engaging of contemporary historical commentators. He comes to West Green to share his knowledge on this extraordinary period with candour and perception, an outstanding public speaker who blends scholarly insights with wit and humour.
