Join us for an evening travelling from the deep south of America to the elegant streets of Paris through the evocative melodies of the prolific and popular composer George Gershwin. An accomplished pianist, influenced by the jazz legends of Tin Pan Alley, Gershwin’s incomparable catalogue ranges from musical theatre classics such as “Strike up the Band!” and “Girl Crazy!” (featuring such classic numbers as “Lady Be Good”, “Embraceable You” and “I Got Rhythm”) to virtuoso serious works such as “Rhapsody in Blue”, “An American in Paris” and his only opera, “Porgy and Bess”, now part of the staple repertoire of many major international opera houses.
Marking 80 years since his passing at the age of only 38, this concert celebrates one of the finest contemporary composers whose legacy has been applauded across jazz clubs, concert halls and opera houses around the world.
